Chandra Observations of the Galaxy Cluster 3C 129 and the two Radio Galaxies 3C 129 and 3C 129.1
Abstract
We present the results of Chandra ACIS imaging spectroscopy observations of the galaxy cluster 3C 129. The system harbors the prototype head-tailed radio galaxy 3C 129 and the weaker radio source 3C 129.1. The observations allow us to assess the spatial gradients of the temperature and chemical composition of the Intracluster Medium down to a photon statistics limited angular scale of 1 arcminute. We find evidence for emission of the jet of the radio galaxy 3C 129. Furthermore, the Chandra data suggests that the temperature of the Intracluster Medium increases toward the cluster center, possibly due to heating by the outflow of the central radio galaxy 3C 129.1. The contribution will focus on a detailed study of the interaction of the radio galaxies with the ambient thermal plasma based on the Chandra X-ray data and several new and archival VLA radio images.
